Adaptive mechanisms in the cortex: Understanding context-dependent tactile perception

Naoya Takahashi and his research team investigate neuronal circuits and plasticity that shape our tactile sensations and experiences. Their research delves into how tactile information is processed within the somatosensory cortex under various contexts, such as during tool use or under different attentional demands. Using the mouse as a model animal, his team employs an interdisciplinary approach, including advanced imaging techniques, to dissect the underlying neuronal mechanisms at different scales (from the subcellular to the network level).
