This protocol allows to prepare DNA easily starting from fruits (here, tomato). It can be done by kids as young as 5 years old and allows everyone to visualize DNA.

The protocol
DNA is present in each and every one of the living beings cells. This protocol allows to simply isolate DNA from tomato with material that anyone can easily get.
This protocol was tested with children in their last year of kindergarten. In this configuration, 3 science educators were following a group of 7 children to cut the tomato in to pieces, add the detergent, salt and 100% alcohol, and to pick up the DNA using a tooth pick.
